History and Evolution of Gasketing Technology
This session covers Gasketing Technology and its Evolution starting in the 1940’s when Asbestos was the gasket material of choice and most of the current flange designs were done around Soft Sheet Materials. It covers the basics of the soft sheet manufacturing process and how that technology has evolved into the use of Non Asbestos materials for both sheet goods and spiral wound gaskets. We will also cover the impact of transition to spiral wound gaskets have had on seal ability, recovery, and overall performance. It also covers the basic concepts of Graphite and Graphite Technology and how it has evolved in the applications for sheet gaskets as well as filler materials and covers for both Semi-Metallic and Metallic Gaskets. Finally we will cover the current impact of the Clean Air Act and the Emissions standards which are dictating Higher Performance, Lower Leakage Rates and overall Bolted Joint Integrity for the Industrial Market Segment.
